About Coach Trevor
I grew up in Ottawa, Ontario, playing minor hockey within the Nepean Minor Hockey Association (NMHA). Goaltending became an important part of my life at a young age, and the experiences I had continue to influence the way I approach coaching today.
Later in my development, I had the opportunity to attend development camps over two seasons with the Providence Jr. Friars program, led by NCAA coach Tim Army. These experiences provided additional exposure to high-level coaching, structured development environments, and different approaches to the goaltending position.
Two mentors in particular had a significant impact on my development.
Shawn Smith of NetFX Goaltending was an important influence on my early technical foundation and understanding of the position.
My primary mentor was Bob Bellmore of Providence College. Bob had a lasting influence on the way I view goaltending, athlete development, and coaching. His knowledge of the position, attention to detail, and particularly his ability to connect with his athletes shaped many of the principles I continue to carry into my own coaching today. More importantly, he demonstrated the value of being a coach who genuinely invests in the people he works with.
As I moved into coaching, I began combining the lessons I had learned from my own mentors with the experience I was gaining from working directly with young goaltenders in Northern Ontario. Over time, that approach developed into the foundation of 705 Tendys.
My coaching places a strong emphasis on the fundamental details of the position, including edge work, skating efficiency, stance, positioning, movement mechanics, save selection, and the development of consistent habits.
I believe goaltenders should understand more than simply how to perform a drill. They should understand why a movement or technique is being taught, when it should be used, and how it applies within a game.
Through 705 Tendys, I have worked with goaltenders across a range of ages and competitive levels, from players who are new to the position to rep-level athletes working toward higher levels of hockey. Seeing goaltenders improve their movement, technical ability, confidence, and overall understanding of the position has become one of the most rewarding aspects of coaching for me.
I also believe long-term development extends beyond the ice. Preparation, mobility, off-ice training, equipment knowledge, mindset, and personal accountability all contribute to becoming a more complete goaltender.
My own development as a coach is ongoing. I continue to learn from other coaches, study the position, refine my methods, and adapt to the individual needs of the athletes I work with.
The philosophy behind 705 Tendys remains simple:
Results over hype. Build strong fundamentals. Train with purpose. .
Develop goaltenders who understand their position — not simply goaltenders who can complete drills.
